Waking Up and Doing What You Love

Have you ever experienced that feeling of Euphoria you get when you have accomplished a huge milestone in your life? Graduating college? Winning the big game? Going on a date? Losing weight? Hitting a PR? I get to experience that every day waking up at 5am. For myself; being healthy and happy are the two biggest factors that I often ask myself when I’m faced with difficult decisions. After finishing college I knew that I wanted to be in the field of human movement and athletics. I wasn’t chasing the money or the easy way out, I was chasing a life of happiness and balance. If you know me, you can tell I live a minimalist lifestyle. I don’t need much too be happy because I constantly practice gratitude. I started Crossfit in 2015 and instantly wanted to make a living out of it. I already had a ton of experience coaching in the strength and conditioning world, but Crossfit was different. Crossfit had a unique type of athletic swagger that I had never experienced in my life. A swagger that can only be explained by people that constantly exercise, and that are constantly improving their fitness. A swagger that only a child can explain because it is giving them the confidence and self-esteem to grow into a positive human being, and a swagger that only an elderly person can exhibit while working out to defeat illness and live a longer, more fulfilling life.

As a coach for Crossfit ASAP, I have experienced much growth and fulfillment in the short time I have been on staff. I wake up every day fired up to PR different tasks and obstacles that I am trying to overcome. I get to work on social media and use my communication skills to drive and promote a business. I get to blog and write about fitness. I’m allowed to be creative with my business skills to make ASAP the best that it can be. I get to learn from one of the best affiliate owners in the industry, and a mentor that doesn’t micro-manage me, and allows me to be a leader. I get to watch people move better, lose weight, and finish a workout that they thought they wouldn’t be able to finish. I get to train and continue to push my athletic threshold, while pursing long-term health. Lastly, I get to surround myself with people that are constantly trying to get better. These workouts are hard. They aren’t your typical personal training sessions, or bootcamps that people go to. These are tough, hard-nosed, mentally challenging workouts that will leave you on the ground gasping for air.

Coaching is more than fitness. Coaching gives you the opportunity to build relationships with people from all aspects of life. People with different occupations, political and life views, goals, perspectives, and personalities. I get to share my goals and aspirations with these people as they do with me. I am kept accountable by these people as I keep them accountable to their fitness and personal goals. I am constantly growing and getting better at my craft to be the best that I can be. I get to share my thoughts and views on life that propel deep conversation and that have created meaningful friendships with the people I train.

My friends, life is not just a mere 100m sprint. In my humble opinion, life is about doing what you love, and doing it on your terms. It’s not about who has the biggest house, the fanciest car, or who’s wearing the most expensive clothing. I really think life is about moments with the people that you love, and spending as much time doing, and hanging out with people that matter. Not everyone is fighting the same battle, I understand that and I have empathy for these people. I comprehend that there are people that need to “pay the bills,” provide for their family, and do something that may not want to be doing. But, I highly implore you to chase your dreams, and wake up every day with a purpose. A purpose that can shed light to your happiness, and a purpose that allows you to make a difference. That purpose and difference for me is why I love waking up and doing what I love.
